In a nutshell:
Beautiful Be Tulum is a favorite celebrity hangout in this eco-chic destination. The glamorous suites have plunge pools or Jacuzzi bathrooms, and some have rooftop terraces and pools. The restaurant is delightful, and there’s an excellent spa too.

Looking for some high tech amenities and modern conveniences in Tulum? Be Tulum could be one of the first of a new wave of design hotels in this bohemian beach town. Only a few years ago hot showers were a luxury here, but now Be Tulum offers air-conditioning, Jacuzzi tubs and glamorous rooftop plunge pools.

There’s a lot to tempt you out of the stylish rooms at Be Tulum. The beach is dazzling and the views of the Caribbean are some that you’ll cherish forever. What could be better than lounging by the oceanfront swimming pool (which has a glass side for extra wow factor) or snoozing on the beach on one of the king size day beds?

Be Tulum is located in the far south of Tulum’s beach zone, close to the entrance to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere reserve. It’s a quieter area, but there’s plenty to entertain you at this property; a cool restaurant and beach bar where live music is sometimes hosted, and a range of spa services.

Cabs run up and down the Boca Paila road frequently so you can easily hop to one of the many great restaurants on the beach or in the town. If you plan to do lots of sightseeing we suggest having a rental car (Be has a parking lot across the street).

Check out our room guide for an analysis of the different types of suites here. The two Beach Suites, with their incredible rooftop plunge pools, are the most desirable, and could be a honeymooner’s dream. But we’d be happy to chill for a few days in any of the Jungle or Arena suites. Note that Be Tulum is an adults-only property, and most of the rooms have one king bed.

Rooms

Looking for a room in Tulum with a serious wow factor? Look no more! These strikingly modern suites seem almost of place in bohemian Tulum, but they offer some indulgences that are hard to find in the beach zone.

All the suites have air-conditioning, ceiling fans, and 24 hour electricity. There are electrical outlets, iPod docking stations, room safes, bathrobes and 300 threadcount cotton sheets topped with light duvets. Wireless internet access is available throughout the property, though the signal strength varies. Hairdryers are not provided and their use is discouraged as they are a huge drain on the generator-sourced power, but otherwise most luxuries are provided.

Which room type to choose? The Jungle and Arena suites differ only in location; Jungle Suites are to the rear of the property and Arena Suites are closer to the beach. All the ground level Jungle and Arena suites have a plunge pool, and all the upper level Jungle and Arena suites have a Jacuzzi tub. Both types of suite have views of the lush gardens; even the Arena suites don’t have an ocean view.

For the ultimate indulgence, the two Beach Suites have both a Jacuzzi tub and a roof top terrace with an amazing glass-sided infinity plunge pool. These two suites are located on the top level of the two buildings closest to the beach and they also have views of the Caribbean. The sunset views over the jungle are also spectacular!

Summary of room facilities

All Suites

Air-conditioning, ceiling fans, 24 hour electricity, electrical outlets, iPod docking stations, room safe.

Jungle Suite

King bed or 2 Queen beds (most have king bed), ground floor rooms have plunge pools, upper level rooms have Jacuzzi tubs.

Arena Suite

Exactly the same as Jungle Suite, but nearer to the beach. Ground floor rooms have plunge pools, upper level rooms have Jacuzzi tubs

Beach Suite

King bed, second floor, Jacuzzi tub in bedroom and rooftop terrace with infinity plunge pool.

The Jungle and Arena suites at Be Tulum are differentiated only by their location – the Arena suites are nearer the beach and the Jungle suites are further back. Both Jungle and Arena suites are housed in two story buildings. In each building, the ground floor rooms have plunge pools and the upper level rooms have Jacuzzi tubs.

These photos show an upper level Jungle suite. The upper level Arena suites are exactly the same design and have the same amenities; only the location is different. Almost all of the suites have one king bed, but there are three Jungle and one Arena suite with two queen beds.

These second floor suites have the advantage that they are generally more private than those on the ground floor. They also have a romantic circular Jacuzzi tub, and beautiful high palapa roofs. Each suite has a private balcony with outdoor seating, and both an indoor and outdoor shower.

The ground floor suites in both the Jungle and Arena category have a small garden with a private plunge pool and a hammock. The Jungle and Arena suites are exactly the same except for the location; Arena suites being nearer to the beach.

These spacious and stylish quarters are air-conditioning and are equipped with ceiling fans. All suites have a vanity and dressing area divided from the sleeping area by a screen. The bathroom and shower are enclosed in rooms with glass doors.

Each suite has an outdoor “rain shower” in addition to the indoor shower. The rooms have full height glass windows to two sides, with drapes for privacy.

The two Beach Suites are located on the second floor of the two buildings that are nearest the beach. In the photo below you can see one of the suites, and the second is in the building to the right, out of sight. The second suite doesn’t have quite as good views, but it is more private.

Both suites have a roof terrace with a spectaclar plunge pool. It has glass sides, so you can admire the view even underwater! The terrace also has a sitting area and an incredible view over the miles of jungle behind the property. The sunset views are breathtaking!

The interiors are exactly the same as the upper level Jungle and Arena suites, with a wonderful circular Jacuzzi tub.

restaurant

Here’s what a delicious day at Be Tulum could look like. Start with breakfast by the beach at 8:00am; watching the gentle Caribbean surf as the waiter delivers the continental breakast of coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, and a basket of tasty croissants, rolls and huge muffins. Contemplate the menu for further temptations such as fruit smoothies, granola and yoghurt or eggs benedict.

Relax on the beach for a few hours then retreat to the shade of the second floor bar and lounge for a cold beer and a ceviche, aguachile or sandwich from the snack menu.

After a lazy siesta or a few laps in the pool, retire to your suite to change for the evening. Enjoy pre-dinner cocktails as the sun sets, followed by a lingering meal in Be’s restaurant. Choose tuna with a jalepeno sauce, fillet mignon or maybe tagliatelle with shrimp as an entree. Later, return to the upper level bar for live music or to meet up with fellow guests over a margarita or mojito. Life on the beach can be tough!

beach

Be Tulum sits at the far south of Tulum’s beach zone, not far from the Biosphere reserve. The beaches here are beautifully wide, quiet and unspoiled. You can walk for miles in either direction and the scenery is stunning.

Guests at Be Tulum can enjoy these fabulous day beds, with palapa shades. On our last visit we counted fifteen daybeds for the twenty rooms at the hotel, plus other beach chairs too. You won’t have a problem finding somewhere to relax here, whatever time of day you arrive.

pool

The gorgeous swimming pool at Be Tulum sits just behind the beach, so that you can watch the waves whilst you swim. One side of the pool is made of glass, so you can even admire the scenery whilst under water.

There’s ample lounging space by the pool, including these vibrant and comfortable armchairs. The bar is adjacent to the pool, so a refreshing cold drink is always within easy reach.
