In a nutshell:
Charming and eclectic beachfront hotel with a great central location on Tulum beach.  Posada Margherita’s Italian restaurant is well known as one of the best places to dine in the area.  Guest rooms can sleep up to 5 people and are great for relaxed family vacations.

Posada Margherita is is a small and rustic hotel located on a beautiful stretch of beach in Tulum.  It’s within easy access of many other cabanas that offer plenty of alternative drinking and dining options, so there’s plenty of variety (though you may find it difficult to find a better restaurant than the one at Posada Margherita!)

The eight rooms, whilst not directly on the beach, are all only a few steps away and some of them have glimpses of the beach and ocean through the tropical gardens. They are simply furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean.

Standard and Superior rooms can accommodate up to three people and the two family rooms have additional beds and can sleep up to four or five people.

Posada Margherita has twenty four hour electricity and rooms are equipped with ceiling fans. There are now electrical outlets in the rooms, although it is not possible to use high voltage equipment such as hairdryers.  We were also pleasantly surprised to find other amenities not typically found in this part of Tulum, including room service, and wireless internet in the restaurant and surrounding beach area.

There are an increasing number of cabanas springing up along this stretch of coast but what we believe really sets Posada Margherita apart from its neighbors is the dedicated and friendly service of the staff and its amazing restaurant. This place soon feels like home and is a fabulous place to chill out, relax and forget all about the pressures of everyday life.

Rooms

There are just eight rooms arranged through pretty tropical gardens at Posada Margarita. Quaint duplex buildings, topped with palapa roofs, house both a first (ground) floor room and an upper floor room.

Posada Margarita is located in a long narrow plot of land and although none of the rooms have direct ocean views, some have glimpses of the turquoise Caribbean from their terraces. And as this is such a small property, the beach is always only steps away from your room.

Lush palm trees, tropical shrubs and colorful flowers line the little walkways while shady terraces provide the perfect refuge from the afternoon heat. This is a perfect place to come to kick of your shoes and just relax.

The accommodations here at Posada Margarita are very versatile and ideal for couples or families. Most of the cabanas have a queen or king  bed and an additional single bed which is slightly partitioned from the main room and could act as a sitting area or bedroom for a third person. There are two larger Family rooms with additional beds that are perfect for larger families.

Although quite rustic, the rooms have 24-hour lighting, ceiling fans, electrical outlets and hot water all day.  Room service is also offered from 7:30am – 8:30pm, although the idyllic beachfront restaurant is hard to miss.

Standard Rooms are simple but contain everything you’ll need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. They are spacious and can easily accommodate three adults in a queen bed and a single bed. The beds are in two distinct sleeping areas so there’s a good deal of privacy for two or three guests, a welcome change to most triple occupancy rooms.

The photographs show room #6 at Posada Margherita. The single bed can be used as a day bed if not required for sleeping.

The rooms are colorful and quirkily decorated. Large windows lead to a terrace or balcony furnished with a table and chairs. where guests can enjoy the balmy climate.

Posada Margherita has three Superior rooms, each of which has a king bed and one or two single beds. Superior room #1 is on the ground floor, beneath #8. It’s close to the beach but doesn’t have any ocean views.

Superior room #1 has a king bed and two additional single beds, one of which is positioned in the same room as the king bed (but not immediately next to it). The second is in a dressing area. There are no doors between these sections of the room, but there’s more privacy for a family than in most guest rooms.

Superior room #3 is on the second floor and has a king bed and a single bed. It has a terrace furnished with two wooden chairs, and you can just glimpse the sea through the palm fronds (photos above and below).

Superior room #2 is located on the ground floor (beneath room #3). It has a king bed and a single bed, and a pretty terrace that overlooks the gardens of the hotel.

Room 5 at Posada Margherita is unusual because it has a separate loft area. There is a ladder-style staircase (which you can just see in the photo above) that provides access to the upper room. The staircase has no hand rails on the sides nor the top, so you need to be quite agile to use it, but it is sure to delight children and teenagers.

The main room is located on the second floor of the property, and has a queen bed plus a single bed by the window, that can be also used as a sofa. The bathroom is on this level too, and has a shower and a pebble effect floor.

The loft room has a double bed. There’s a ceiling fan above and the ceiling is full height, so it feels just like a regular bedroom once you’ve climbed the staircase.

This bedroom has access to a small terrace that faces towards the jungle. Room 5 doesn’t have any ocean views, but from this terrace you can witness spectacular sunsets over the jungle canopy.

Room 7 is an upper floor room located above the standard room #4. It is a good choice for families with children, having a queen bed and two single beds in one large bedroom.  This is a spacious room with big windows and a high ceiling.

The bathroom features a large walk-in shower that will make family bathtimes simple. There’s a three-quarter height door to the shower and toilet, and then a vanity area that has an open doorway to the main room.

Room #7 has a nice furnished terrace on the same level as the bedroom. It’s shaded by an overhanging palapa roof and is a pleasant place to relax; almost like a separate sitting room.

A wooden staircase leads up to the wonderful roof terrace, from which you can see both the Caribbean and the jungle. There’s no shade here, so it’s good for sunbathing or for stargazing.

Superior room #8 is the room nearest to the beach at Posada Margherita. It is on the second floor and has spectacular ocean views from its rooftop terrace. This is a great place from which to admire the varying hues of the Caribbean sea, and watch the kitesurfers in action.

The bedroom has a queen bed, a single bed and a day bed that could be used as a bed for a child. There’s plenty of space here, and the ceiling fans keep it nice and cool. The bathroom is very similar to the one in room #7, with a spacious walk-in shower and a vanity area.

In addition to the roof terrace, room #8 has a terrace just outside the room, furnished with wicker arm chairs and wooden chairs. This terrace also enjoys glimpses of the sea through palm fronds.

restaurant

This is without doubt one of the best restaurants in Tulum. It has a small, cozy and intimate atmosphere and with its beachfront location has to be one of the most romantic locations for dinner. Tables are set out under a large palapa that’s open to the ocean breezes so you can enjoy your pre-dinner drinks under a canopy of stars.

The Italian chef prepares a mix of vegetable and fish dishes with a distinct Mediterranean slant. There is no fixed menu: instead a large plate of antipasti is brought to you to enjoy with an aperitif. This consists of a mixed plate of bruschetta, olives, cheese and freshly-baked breads that you can munch while your waiter explains tonight’s dinner options.

Everything is freshly prepared, so the menu typically includes a mix of today’s catch, vegetables and home-made pasta. Salads are also generally available but please note that the restaurant doesn’t serve any meat or chicken.

There are only a limited number of tables and this is a very popular restaurant with the locals, so we recommend that you arrive early. During our last visit, when the meal was over someone spotted a turtle, and we were lucky enough to see it laying its eggs on the moonlit beach. An unforgettable experience that rounded off a perfect evening.

beach

This is a fabulous beach to wake up to each morning; soft powdery sand edged by palms and washed by the clear blue Caribbean it is simply picture-perfect. There are plenty of comfortable sun beds arranged under large palapas, comfy chairs and even a swinging canopied bed.

Everything you’ll need for endless days of sunshine and relaxation is right here. The hotel’s restaurant is just a few steps away, so it isn’t too hard to drag yourself away from the beach for lunch. And just a short walk in either direction and you will find other cabanas offering other options for eating or drinking. Be warned though that it’s almost impossible to better the food at Posada Margarita!

There’s a good range of water activities which can be arranged through or close by to the hotel.  These include snorkeling, diving and fishing. From June to October you may even be lucky enough to see turtles nesting.
