We love the location of the Riviera del Sol; close to the best beaches and our favorite part of lively 5th Avenue. This family friendly property also makes a great base for sightseeing in the Riviera Maya.
This small hotel is located at the end of Playa del Carmen’s lively 5th Avenue. We reckon the location is ideal, since it’s a pleasant ten minute stroll into the very heart of town along this street, passing some wonderful bars and restaurants en-route, yet isn’t as noisy as the more centrally located hotels.
It’s also just one block from the finest stretch of beach in Playa del Carmen, where you’ll find the most popular beach clubs (hotel guests enjoy complimentary access to one of these clubs, so they can use the sun loungers and beach towels there and of course enjoy bar service by the ocean).
The Riviera del Sol is an excellent choice for families because of this location. The hotel also offers connecting rooms and rooms with kitchenettes that are ideal for those with small children. There are also some more romantic rooms with king beds and balconies.
The hotel is already popular with repeat guests, so we recommend making reservations well in advance to secure your favorite room.
The Riviera del Sol’s twenty three guest rooms are arranged in an “L” shape around the swimming pool. Standard rooms have either a king or two double beds and overlook the pool and garden. Some Deluxe rooms feature a kitchenette with a mini-fridge and are located on the upper floors.
Some connecting rooms are also available, and extra beds can be requested. Every room is equipped with good quality air-conditioning and a ceiling fan, plus hairdryers, room safes, direct dial telephones and satellite TV.
Note that the rooms are arranged over three stories and there is no elevator at the hotel.

The standard rooms are very spacious and make an ideal base for a vacation whether you plan to spend most of your time on the beach, in the night clubs or sightseeing! The rooms on the ground floor only have a small step-out terrace but are just steps from the pool terrace as compensation.
All the rooms are well equipped with mini refrigerator, flat screen TV and room safes. The bathrooms have showers and hairdryers.
Some of the Deluxe rooms have kitchenettes, which are fitted with hot plates, a refrigerator, coffee maker, crockery and cutlery. These are particularly useful for a longer stay or for families with small children, although there are dozens of restaurants in all price ranges within easy walking distance of the hotel.
All rooms have a balcony or terrace that overlook the swimming pool. The hotel has three stories and the best views are obtained from the highest rooms. There’s also a rooftop solarium that offers superb views of Playa del Carmen.
Continental breakfast is included in the rates at the Riviera del Sol and is served in the restaurant-bar. A selection of juices, fruits, yoghurt, toast and cereals are offered.
No other meals are served here, which keeps the property pleasantly quiet. Of course, there are dozens of restaurants and bars just a minute’s walk away on 5th Avenue.
Guests will also find a good range of local information in the restaurant-bar, and it’s a nice place to meet up with friends and plan some sightseeing.
The stylish lounge is on the upper floor of the hotel, overlooking the pool. Open to the outside air, it has a cool, relaxing feel.
It’s furnished with some wonderful day beds and there is even a TV and DVD player for guests’ entertainment.
The hotel pool is a welcoming sight on a hot day in Playa del Carmen. It’s almost as blue as the Caribbean and is plenty big enough for swimming and cooling off.
There’s even a shallow section for children. The pool is open from 8:00am to 8:00pm and pool towels are available at reception.
When you tire of the pool, the Riviera del Sol is just one block from one of the finest stretches of beach in Playa del Carmen. The best beach clubs in town are located here, and hotel guests are entitled to complimentary access to one of these clubs, including use of towels and sun loungers.
From here it’s a ten minute walk into the old part of town along the beach – or you can walk along 5th Avenue if you prefer.
