In a nutshell:
Unique and beautiful hotel in the colonial city of Zacatecas. Luxurious base for exploring this historic city, with its wealth of sightseeing attractions.  Don’t miss the charming bar, set in the former bull corrals.

Architecturally stunning, the Quinta Real and its surroundings are a must-see in Zacatecas. Where else can you stay in a hotel that incorporates the oldest bull ring in North America and lies alongside a 16th century aqueduct?

The interior of the hotel is equally impressive. Hallways circle the bull ring, boldly decorated and filled with a profusion of potted plants and shrubs.   You’ll find elegant boutiques and grand function rooms around the perimeter, with the prime spot reserved for the sophisticated restaurant. The Quinta Real group are renowned for their high class cuisine with an emphasis on Mexican ingredients.

Our favorite hideout is the cellar bar, formerly the bull corrals. It’s one of the most atmospheric hotel bars we know.

The spacious suites are tastefully furnished and include the most modern facilities from satellite TV, CD and video players to Jacuzzi baths.

Zacatecas’ silver mines brought riches to the city and left behind fine mansions and magnificent churches. In a city of such splendor, the Quinta Real is suitably classy and will please the most discerning traveler.

Rooms

The Quinta Real offers spacious and elegant guest rooms in the most spectacular setting in the city and just a short stroll from the historic center of town. Most rooms look over courtyards rather than the bullring (choose the Presidential Suite if you insist on the ultimate view). However, these areas are attractive, especially at night when fairy lights twinkle in the trees.

All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning and heating, cable TV, minibars, iron and board. Master suites come with either one king or two double beds and feature a small sitting area and an attractive (though non-functional) fireplace. The Grand Class Suites are larger, often with a split level sitting area, and also have a Jacuzzi in the bathroom. Note that all the Gran Clase suites currently have two double beds.

The Presidential Suite has three bedrooms, one with a queen bed and two with two double beds. This magnificent suite also has a separate living room and dining room to sit eight people.

Many rooms feature ornamental columns and opulent glass-topped desks that are trademarks of the Quinta Real style. We also love the luxurious bathrooms, with their frilly curtains, generously sized tubs and lavish lighting. Following a recent remodelling, all rooms now have plasma screen TVs and 24 hour room service.  Connecting rooms are not available at the hotel, but cribs can be added upon request for babies.

Request the “Governor’s Suite” (#411) for a view of the bullring, this is a smallish room with two double beds. The adjacent room, #410 also enjoys a glimpse of the ring.

Gran Clase Suites are slightly larger than the Master Suites, and currently all have two double beds.  These suites have a sitting area and also a generously sized work desk, so there’s plenty of space for business and relaxation.

The magnificent bathrooms feature large soaking tubs with hydrotherapy action. You’ll also find an impressive vanity area, with luxury amenities including luxury soaps and shampoo.

The Presidential Suite enjoys a breathtaking view over the bullring. It comprises three bedrooms; one with a queen bed and two with two double beds.

An impressive high-ceilinged sitting room with dining area to sit up to eight people is a major feature of the suite and is perfect for entertaining.

restaurant

If you’ve contemplated the unique setting and still need convincing that this is the hotel for you, then take a look at the restaurant.  Immense picture windows overlook thePlaza de Toros, resplendent at night time with the spectacular illumination. Inside, the restaurant is arranged over three tiers, echoing the steps of the arena outside. Each table has a prime ringside view.

Heavy wooden beams, iron chandeliers and rustic paintings are softened by the white linen and tapestry-covered chairs. Service is appropriately formal for such an elegant setting.

But it is the menu itself that will entice you to stay: wonderfully exotic names and traditional Mexican ingredients prepared to the highest standards.  This is the place to be adventurous; if you’ve never tried baby cactus or pumpkin flowers before then now is the time. Of course, you may just be homesick for a choice U.S. rib-eye steak – and you’ll find that here too.

bar

A perfect evening in Zacatecas would have to include a visit to this bar. When the ring was in use, these cellars were the bull corrals and today you can still see the graffiti inscribed by onlookers.  Now the tunnels through which the bulls were released into the ring are cozy alcoves, sealed by a glass window. Small tables are available under the low arches and the lighting is suitably subdued.

For a hotel bar it’s amazingly atmospheric and an ideal contrast to the formality of the restaurant. When we don’t feel like a five course extravaganza we choose nachos or other nibbles from the bar menu and retreat to our cozy tunnel.

The hotel is relatively easy to reach by car, being just outside the historic center.
