We had a great trip and the hotel was excellent! Eco Paraiso Xixim was great. Excellent food, the staff was great, the early morning flamingo and the evening crocodile trips with Alex Dzib were outstanding. The manager was very personable. The woman at check-in and check-out was rather cool and unfriendly, maybe because we are from the USA. My recommendation is that the Manager, who's name escapes me, try to greet the guests at check-in and check-out and that he visit the dining room in the evening to speak with the guests. He has a great attitude and is very positive.

Eco Paraiso Xixim - Food was better than expected, truly outstanding, staff good, especially the very enthusiastic manager (James in English), good beach, beautiful flamingos. Only one negative and it was very bad, bad, bad: The ceiling/roof of the beautiful room is that hay/reed/thatch and it was "Gecko mating season"- reason given by hotel. They live in the ceiling and were dropping onto the floor. The really bad, bad part of this is that their poo, politely known as droppings, were all over the floor and THE BEDS, the maids came in and sweep during the day. BUT, STILL THERE SHOULD BE BED NETS OVER THE BEDS, or false plastic/glass ceilings built on top of the stucco walls. The animals probably are in the roof all year and poo all year. It was gross and could not be healthy.

When you read this please do not think that I am being too fussy. I am a world traveler and have stayed in all kinds of places top end and low end. As proof, I offer that fact that we traveled around by 2nd class bus!

A lovely resort, in a location we hope never to visit again.  We were bitten by every type of insect known to man, and the beach was unswimmable, due to speed boats passing dangerously close to the shore every 5 minutes all day long.  With the exception of the waiter/bartender (who was great!), the staff was strange.  The fresh towels we were provided on Day 2 SMELLED -- no, they STANK, and we had to wonder who used them before us.  The food was mediocre.  The misadvertised tour of the flamingo reserve was really a 3-hour speed boat ride.  Where we thought we would go to the coast and relax for a few days, we just had a miserable, itchy time.
