Day 1 (Tuesday)

You will be greeted at Villahermosa airport and taken for a tour of the park-museum "La Venta", home of the colossal Olmec heads. The park is attractively arranged with lush tropical gardens and zoological exhibits and is one of the highlights of this area. Later, continue to your hotel in Villahermosa and relax by the pool or explore this Tabascan city. Lunch and dinner are served at the hotel.

Day 2 (Wednesday)

Start the day with breakfast at the hotel followed by transfers by road to the incredible Mayan ruins at Palenque. Surrounded by jungle, Palenque is one of the most atmospheric and magical of the Mayan cities and is guaranteed to impress. After the tour, your guide will take you for lunch in the town of Palenque and then to your hotel. The afternoon is yours to spend relaxing at the hotel, exploring the town or returning to the archaeological site. The memorable day ends with dinner at the hotel..

Day 3 (Thursday)

Meet in the hotel lobby at 5:30am for transfers to the Palenque train station where your tour on board the Expreso Maya begins. A delicious a la carte breakfast is served on board the train as you journey through the scenic Chiapas countryside. Around midday the train will stop for a visit to the impressive Cenote Agua Azul. This is a tranquil location where you can watch for howler monkeys and exotic birds, or take a swim in the crystal clear waters of the lagoon. Back on board the train, the three course lunch is served in the dining car, accompanied by wine or beer. The journey continues on towards Campeche, and before arriving in the city you will be invited to the dining car for dinner. On arrival in Campeche, vehicles will be waiting to take you to the hotel. Arrival time is usually around 11pm.

Day 4 (Friday)

A full day to discover the treasures of the fortress city of Campeche. Following a delicious buffet breakfast at the hotel you will visit the archaeological site of Edzna and then the Fort of San Miguel (departing around 8am). Later you'll enjoy lunch at a traditional restaurant in town, where seafood is bound to be a feature. In the afternoon you'll have free time to stroll the colorful colonial streets. At night, take the sightseeing tour on board the Campeche streetcar. Dinner will be served in a restaurant downtown, often with a spectacular view of the Cathedral.

Day 5 (Saturday)

Return to the comfort of the Expreso Maya train and a gourmet breakfast will be served as you depart from Campeche. Pick up at the hotel is around 5:30am. Around mid-day, the train stops at Maxcanu, where transportation is waiting to take you to the nearby Mayan city of Uxmal. Uxmal is regarded as one of the most beautiful of the Mayan cities, with its delicate architecture and mystical pyramids. Your guide will introduce you to the legends and history of Uxmal and you'll also have time to explore on your own. Back on board the train, lunch is served in the dining car as you continue on towards Mérida. On arrival at the capital of the Yucatan at around 7:30pm, you'll be transferred to your hotel, where dinner will be served.

Day 6 (Sunday)

Board the Expreso Maya to Izamal and Chichen Itza at around 5:30am. Enjoy breakfast on board and arrive at Izamal , the "golden city" of the Yucatan, with its impressive convent and nearby Mayan ruins. Re-board the train and continue to the Chichén Itzá archaeological site. Light lunch will be served before your arrival at Chichén Itzá. Enjoy a tour of these most impressive ruins followed by transfer by road to Cancun or the Riviera Maya, or back to Merida.
