The Hacienda was built between 1879 and 1890 by a
German coffee planter named Arnoldo Vogel and his
Mexican wife, Clotilde Quevedo de Vogel. The Arabica
coffee grown on the estate was exported worldwide
and at its apogee the plantation extended almost as
far as the Pacific coast.
The Chapel of San Antonio was built by Madam Vogel when the estate escaped unscathed following a volcanic eruption. The original icon of Saint Anthony still stands on the pulpit. The chapel is still used for special local festivals, including the fiesta of San Antonio in the nearby village of Becerrara (June 3 - 15) when the villagers make daily visits to the chapel and celebrate with marches and parades.

The pretty chapel would make a delightful setting for a small wedding and can seat around 60 people. Wedding groups of around 50 guests could be granted exclusive use of the hacienda for a weekend of celebrations and festivities. Both simple and grandiose events can be arranged, with magnificent banquets, organized excursions and lavish accommodations for the wedding party.
