history
Inaugurated in 1904 by President Porfirio Díaz, the hotel was considered one of the most elegant in the city and was for a while one of the tallest buildings!During his period in office (1914-20) President Venustiano Carranza lived in the hotel, and a few years later one of his successors, Alvaro Obregón, was assassinated shortly after leaving the premises for an engagement.
Years later the building became the offices for the American Embassy (now situated in Rio Danubio, further down the Reforma).Renovated many times in its lifetime, the building opened its doors once more, as a five star hotel, in 1989.
