our opinion
Reassuringly grand and European in style, the Imperial would be an excellent choice for those seeking some familiarity on a first visit to the city. It has had a long history, including a spell as the American Embassy, and occupies a prestigious location on Paseo de la Reforma.
The lobby is impressive; full of marble and chandeliers - and very efficient bell-boys. Service here is as you would expect from a business-oriented hotel, proving that you don't need to spend a fortune at one of the top chains for five-star facilities.
Rooms are generously sized, with modern style and facilities. Though they don't reflect the character of the building, they do provide a very comfortable base to explore the city.
The hotel's travel agency is convenient for arranging organized tours; they offer airline tickets too (but not yet for the bus network). We've included examples of the tours on offer to give you some ideas.
From here you can walk (just over 1km) to the Zona Rosa - that is if you don't mind chancing your life whenever you cross the road! It's a similar distance to the Alameda, but you'll probably need a cab for the Zocalo or Chapultepec park.
