We had a great time in Mexico. The staff of the hotel are very helpful and the terrace is rather beautiful. Unfortunately one can't really appreciate it since this is one of the world's noisiest hotels. The problem is the square, the Zocolo, where they have a fearsome sound stage that produces thousands of watts of low grade music. This is allowed to continue until midnight and takes off again at 6.00am. It is quite dreadful. Luckily we had an inside room. Even there it was quite loud. It does seem a pity that such a nice hotel should have to put up with this. It detracts considerably from the quality of the hotel. I would not go there again.

My stay at the Hotel Majestic was brief, but forever memorable. Our flight arrived late in the evening and as we approached the hotel it appeared closed, but our uneasiness was curbed when we were greeted by the amiable night clerk. In the morning I watched a truly enchanting sunrise over Mexico City's historic zocalo, seeminlgy choreographed with the majestic music of an offical Mexican band playing as the Mexican flag was hoisted. We dined in the hotel's 7th story roof top restaurant over looking the exquisite National Cathedral. All the service staff was genuinely accomodating. They helped us make reservations at our next destination and always had taxis ready at a moment's notice. I only spent a night at the Majestic, but the impression it made will forever last in my travels.

After checking into the Hotel Majestic, it soon became obvious why the hotel lost its Best Western designation.  We rented a suite, and while it was clean, it was very sparsely furnished.  There was just one lamp and end table in our bedroom and in the living room there were just two lamps -- one of which had no light bulb.   The Hotel Imperial was superb and a real bargain for $70 a night.  I wholeheartedly recommend it, and will stay there if we ever return to Mexico City.
