Maroma is truly special - a beautiful hideaway on a perfect Caribbean beach with a welcome that makes you feel at home within minutes. You won’t believe that you are less than an hour from the crowds at Cancun - from the moment you leave the coastal highway you really are in a different world.

Once you leave the main highway it takes a good fifteen minutes’ drive through the jungle before you catch a glimpse of white stucco walls and thatched turrets. (Only one tenth of Maroma’s land is developed in order to preserve ecological balance.)

On our first visit, several years ago, we arrived in darkness and, momentarily stunned by the remoteness, we were amazed to be greeted by name at the entrance.  Although the hotel has grown over the last few years the personalized service and attention to detail is as strong as ever.  Nothing is too much trouble for the staff here.  The resort itself still has that air of enchantment.

Inside is a world of rounded white walls, lush green foliage and stylish furnishings, with views of the turquoise Caribbean and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

The newly opened Kinan Spa offers a wonderful range of treatments and spa rituals to revive, invigorate and pamper.

Dining is amazing; eating in one of the two elegant dinner restaurants with the sound of waves breaking just outside the window or right on the beach under a blanket of stars is a magical experience.

Maroma has to be amongst the top hotels in the world.  It has an understated elegance and is a discrete luxurious sanctuary; no wonder it is so popular with celebrities.  It is so unlike a hotel - more likely that it has evolved from the desire to preserve this little bit of paradise by sharing it with a few invited friends. (There is a captivating story of how the house developed, but it should be left for those who visit to appreciate).

Don’t come here for organized activities or even televisions (if you absolutely need to find out what's going on in the world, there is a TV in the multimedia theater) and don’t expect to stroll into town after dinner.

If you'd like to explore the Yucatan it's quite easy to rent a car and visit the ancient cities of Chichen Itza and Tulum, or the bright lights of Cancun and Playa del Carmen. But be warned - once you arrive here you may find it very hard to tear yourself away...
