our opinion
The only access to the hotel is via the beach, which can seem a disadvantage when you first arrive (but the bell boys will bring your luggage from the nearby street). However, this does mean that the hotel is surprisingly quiet for such a central location - even the swimming pool is elevated from the beach level and is very private.
Positioning the restaurant directly in front of the beach with only a narrow entrance to the guest area allows the staff to keep constant surveillance over arrivals and departures, so that security here is excellent.
All rooms are comprehensively furnished with hairdryers, cable TV and quiet air-conditioning, plus guests can stock the fridges (available in all but the economy suite) with their own beverages.
However, the biggest selling point for this property in our opinion is the wonderful hospitality and excellent management. Even if you visit for just a few days, you'll be warmly welcomed, and you'll find the staff both friendly and efficient. We can confidently predict a high number of repeat guests at Playa Maya for this reason alone.
