Taxco, Southern Mexico WE LIKE: Ideal central location, wonderful swimming pool, friendly service This charming property is located in the heart of Taxco, within easy reach of all the main attractions. Guest rooms are comfortable and have all the necessary amenities for a visit to this picturesque town. What makes a stay here really special is the fabulous outdoor pool located on a terrace that commands great views over the city. Guests visiting Taxco during the spring, summer or fall can enjoy a refreshng swim after sightseeing, a rare pleasure in Taxco. The staff is unfailingly helpful and cheery and the Agua Escondida also has a charming restaurant serving Mexican specialties at reasonable prices.

Tulum, Caribbean Coast WE LIKE: Modern rooms with air-conditioning, excellent facilities, great location Ana y Jose offers a different experience to many of the small hotels along the beach. Its stylish and well appointed rooms offer many facilities that are hard to find in the Tulum beach area, including air-conditioning, hairdryers, Ipod docking stations, telephones and mini bars. Some rooms even have flat screen TVs. Although still only a small hotel, it does have very good facilities which include an excellent restaurant, spa, swimming pool, car rental and excursions. It is a great choice for those seeking a less rustic stay on Tulum beach. Children are accepted and there is a good range of accommodation to suite both families and couples.

Riviera Nayarit, Central Pacific Coast WE LIKE: Tranquil location on two beautiful beaches, simple and charming accommodations with kitchenettes, wonderful for long stays Bungalows Lydia is perched above two beautiful, virtually private beaches just a short drive from San Francisco (San Pancho), a little town about 30 miles north of Puerto Vallarta. It is a tranquil and picturesque location that's ideal for a few days of total relaxation and heavenly for a longer stay. We could imagine hiding away here for a few months to escape a cold winter (the property has wi-fi throughout, so it's easy to keep in touch too). The rooms and bungalows can accomodate from two to four peope. Each unit has a kitchenette with refrigerator and coffee maker etc; many have wonderful views over the beaches. The property is owned and carefully maintained by two sisters who are charming hosts and great sources of local information. There is ongoing work on some rooms and plans to maybe add a restaurant, so check with us about any construction when you reserve.

Every suite consists of two rooms, a sitting room and a bedroom, and is equipped with wireless internet access, coffee maker and microwave. Couples and families looking for an alternative to the Four Seasons in Punta Mita will find this resort very attractive. The magnificent two and three bedroom suites are some of the finest accommodations around the Bay of Banderas and resort has impressive facilities, including an excellent spa and childrens' activity program. The standards of service are very high, though in our opinion not quite as polished as the Four Seasons (though for many people the convenience of the all-inclusive plan will compensate for this). The Grand Velas also has the advantage of a convenient location, being within easy reach of both the airport and the town, and a lovely long beach.

The rates include breakfast and dinner at the hotels restaurant. There is a beachfront bar serving drinks throughout the day and evening. The hotel has a games room, small boutique and water sports center. There are patches of coral in the shallow waters off the beach which provide great snorkeling. This is a great choice for families looking for a relaxed beach vacation.

Costa Alegre, Central Pacific Coast WE LIKE: Prime beach location, tropical and delightfully simple thatched roof cottages with good facilities nearby The Playa Rosa Bungalows are three pastel colored, thatched roof cottages set amidst palm trees on a beautiful and quiet beach close to the Careyes hotel and the Casitas de las Flores. The casitas have one king or two double beds and have ceiling fans and private bathrooms (but no kitchen or dining facilities). Close to the bungalows is the acclaimed Playa Rosa restaurant, serving breakfasts and excellent seafood right by the ocean.
