Mezzanine
WE LIKE: Party atmosphere; cool beachside rooms; friendly service

Mezzanine is changing the sleepy image of Tulum with its inspired modern design and a lively party beat. It's set to become the coolest bar in town, and the four guestrooms are guaranteed to be amongst the most coveted addresses for the in-crowd.

Positioned just yards from the ocean, the guest rooms are eminently comfortable as well as being sleek and stylish. Each has a double height sleeping area and novel mezzanine level for additional guests or for lounging.

Cabanas la Conchita
WE LIKE: Idyllic location; beautiful rustic rooms; superb breakfast
For those in search of a simple but idyllic beach vacation, Cabanas la Conchita is heaven on earth. Wake each morning to bright blue skies and the warm Caribbean just yards from your room; fall asleep to the sound of the ocean and the rustle of palm fronds. Days can be filled with swimming and snorkeling, diving and cycling or hiking - or just relaxing on the quiet little beach. The hotel is our favorite amongst the cluster of casita style resorts on this stretch of coast because of the careful and artistic design, the simple luxuries of spotlessly clean bathrooms with hot water, and the pretty and well screened rooms. As an added bonus, it is (for the moment at least) fairly quiet and isn't big enough to be overrun with large groups and families.

Coqui Coqui Spa
WE LIKE: Small and intimate hotel, spa facilities, good beach

This unique small resort is located on a wonderful beach in Tulum.  There are just 7 beautifully appointed rooms.  The style of the property is very different to others in this area.  It is less beach cabana and more of a elegant but rustic hotel.  Canopied beds, rattan furniture and cream stone bathrooms which feature a large soaking tub add to the style.

The hotel has a very good spa which offers a range of services from massages to facials and some wonderful spa ritual packages.  There is a small restaurant which serves breakfast.  Lunch and dinner are available with prior reservation.  The hotel is also within walking distance of several other good restaurants.

Suenos Tulum
WE LIKE: Amazing beach; good snorkeling; tranquil location
This beautiful little hotel has everything for the ultimate get-away-from-it all vacation. Located on one of the most wonderful stretches of beach on the Riviera Maya, wth miles of soft white sand, it's perfect for those looking for solitude and relaxation.  Most rooms have two double beds, and families are welcome (young children are allowed in the ground floor rooms only).  In our opinion this is one of the most private and peaceful hotels on Tulum's main beach.

Hemingway
WE LIKE: Spacious and rustic cabanas, some with two large beds, beachfront restaurant

A wonderfully rustic hotel located on a beach of cool white sand that stretches as far as the eye can see. The water here is incredibly clear making it a superb location for swimming and snorkeling.

This simple hotel is a true getaway; perfect for those who yearn for rest and relaxation. With some rooms directly on the beach and others just a little way behind you are never far from the tempting waters of the Caribbean.  Several rooms have a king bed and a second bed (beachfront rooms have a king and a queen bed).

Hemingway is the perfect spot to escape the pressures of day-to-day life and get back to nature in true Mexican style.

Posada Margherita
WE LIKE: Amazing beach; great food; rooms cool at night

A small and friendly rustic resort located on a beautiful stretch of beach with comfortable, spotlessly clean rooms and a great restaurant. The renowned restaurant is beachfront and the guest rooms are not directly on the beach,  but they are all only a few steps away and some have glimpses of the powder-white sand and turquoise ocean.

Posada Margherita's guest rooms have 24-hour lighting and ceiling fans, and are well suited for triple or quadruple occupancy (most rooms have one queen and one single bed and some have three beds).  We were also pleasantly surprised to find other amenities not typically found in this part of Tulum, including room service, and wireless internet access in the restaurant and surrounding beach area.

La Zebra Beach Cabanas
WE LIKE: Fabulous beach, cabanas with stylish interiors, excellent beachfront restaurant

La Zebra is located to the south of the hotel beach area.  This is a wonderful wide stretch of the beach which is quiet and yet within walking distance of lots of other small restaurants and bars.
The rooms here have a fairly traditional beach cabana style, with its small colored houses and palapa roofs.  Inside the rooms are quite a surprise with modern and stylish interiors featuring white decor and bed linens accented by a splash of red.  Rooms have 24 hour electricity, ceiling fans, mosquito nets and beach towels.  Rooms have either a king or two double beds and there are a few larger houses which are good for families.
The hotel's beachfront restaurant has a fantastic selection of Mexican specialities, including lots of locally caught fish.  There are also a great range of fresh fruit margaritas to try and mojitos made from fresh sugar cane juice.  On Sundays there is a salsa party in the evenings.

Be Tulum
WE LIKE: Chic, air-conditioned suites on the beach in Tulum, adults-only, trendy beach club

Looking for some high tech amenities and modern conveniences in Tulum?  Be Tulum could be the first of a new wave of design hotels in this bohemian beach town.  Only a few years ago hot showers were a luxury here, but now Be Tulum offers Jacuzzi tubs and glamorous rooftop plunge pools.  The 20 suites are housed in two story buildings, with the Ocean Suites being beachfront, followed by the Arena Suites and then Jungle Suites to the rear of the property.  In the Arena and Jungle Suites, ground floor rooms have plunge pools whilst the second floor rooms have Jacuzzi tubs.  The two Ocean Suites occupy the prime beachfront, second floor locations.  Their generously sized rooftop plunge pools offer amazing views over the jungle canopy and the ocean. All suites have air-conditioning, spacious interiors and floor to ceiling windows.

El Pez
WE LIKE: Stylish beach hotel, great rooms for families, pretty and rocky beach

El Pez is the sister hotel to the fabulous Tulum hotels la Zebra and Mezzanine.  Each property has its own flavor, and for us el Pez works both as an intimate and romantic hideaway or as a tranquil location for a small family.  Located on Turtle cove (yes, you may see turtles nesting on the beach in season!) el Pez is close to several other hotels and restaurants, but since the beach has limited access and is rocky, it doesn't get much foot traffic.  A good swimming beach is just a short stroll away.   For families with young children, we reckon the Sea Front Cabanas are hard to beat.  Each has either a king bed plus a single bed, or three single beds, and a rollaway bed can be added to each of these rooms.  There are also six rooms with a king bed, four of which are beachfront.  All rooms have 24 hour electricity, ceiling fans and wireless internet access is available in some public areas.

Encantada
WE LIKE: Fabulous beach, chic rooms with luxury bedding and bathrooms, ocean front rooms with breathtaking views
Regular Tulum visitors who are looking for a little more luxury in their accommodations will love la Encantada. It's still pretty simple in the traditional Tulum style (no air-conditioning or TVs) but you'll feel pampered by the high quality bedding, stylish bathrooms with lashings of hot water, big ceiling fans over the bed and wireless internet access.  This is also one of the few places we know of in Tulum where you can bring and use your hairdryer. All rooms have very similar designs and amenities, but the Ocean Front upper rooms are well worth the premium just for the yelp of delight you'll let out when you first see the views - truly a "wow" moment.

Posada Punta Piedra
WE LIKE: Traditional cabanas on a pretty cove, quiet location yet close to all amenities in Tulum.
These charming cabanas have a picturesque location on a quiet cove in the central part of Tulum's beach zone.  Here you can relax on a gorgeous white sand beach and enjoy bar service and a restaurant just a few paces away.  The guest rooms have electricity 24 hours a day (subject to Tulum's off-the-grid restrictions) and wireless internet access. Most rooms have one king or queen bed, but one of the large upstairs rooms has two kings.  Book well in advance to secure the beachfront Royal room, which has a king bed and spectacular beach views.
