Guadalajara

Silver mines, fine colonial architecture, beautiful churches and lively fiestas – it’s all here in Mexico’s Central Highlands.   This region has an excellent network of roads and there are several airports with direct international flights, so you can visit for a weekend break or plan a more comprehensive tour of several cities.

Here are some highlights:

  • Guadalajara – Mexico’s second city and the birthplace of mariachis and tequila
  • San Miguel de Allende – artists’ retreat and shoppers’ paradise, with a near perfect climate year-round
  • Guanajuato – rich in history and also a lively University town that hosts the Cervantino arts and music festival
  • Zacatecas – here  you’ll find some unusual and memorable sights such as a tour of a silver mine that also functions as a night club, a cable car ride high over the city, and a museum of Mexican masks with over 3000 exhibits.
  • Querataro – birthplace of Mexican independence and a wonderful city for strolling, with a fiesta atmosphere at weekends
