In a nutshell:
One of the first hotels located by the archaeological site of Uxmal, the Hacienda Uxmal has hosted royalties and celebrities.  Nowadays it is a great base to explore the area, and has a nice swimming pool and restaurant.  The Uxmal Cacao and Chocolate Museum is adjacent to the property.

The proximity of Hacienda Uxmal to one of Mexico’s most important cultural sites means that it attracts many visitors effortlessly each year.

Even though the majority of guests spend most of their time exploring the ruins rather than inside the hotel, the Hacienda Uxmal still succeeds in making this a comfortable and attractive destination.

The restaurant serves good food, both local and international, and service is always with a smile. If you’re lucky you can often hear the mariachis gently serenading diners and this gives the place a wonderful ambiance.

The rooms are arranged around an inner courtyard that’s filled with tropical plants and singing birds; there are even rocking chairs dotted around so during the evening you can sit back, relax and enjoy the experience of staying in a historic destination.

It is inevitable that a hotel so close to the ruins (it’s opposite the entrance) will attract tour groups, and this is true of the Hacienda Uxmal, but somehow it doesn’t seem to matter here. While the groups are out exploring during the heat of the day, it’s great to laze around the refreshing pool, and then head out later on when the ruins are quieter and cooler.

The eighty Superior rooms overlook a pretty open courtyard and are arranged over two stories. All rooms are air-conditioned and are also equipped with ceiling fans.

For something a little more special, the hotel also has Superior rooms featuring a Jacuzzi bathroom.

Summary of room facilities

All rooms

Air-conditioning, ceiling fan,TV.  Wireless internet access available in some rooms.

King bed or two double beds.  Some rooms can be connecting.

The tile floored rooms are decorated simply, but are very comfortable and have good amenities such as air conditioning, ceiling fan, mini-bar, coffee maker and satellite TV.

Rooms have two comfortable double beds and two easy chairs to relax in after a hard day’s sightseeing. Bathrooms are spacious, tiled rooms and most have both a tub and a shower.

The cozy restaurant serves a good selection of both Yucatecan and International cuisine.

Although there are quite often groups eating here, this isn’t overwhelming as there is a good balance of independent travelers too, especially in the evening.

As well as this restaurant, there is a more casual poolside grill, which also serves both Mexican and International food. A trio of musicians can often be found serenading guests at meal times around both places, which is wonderful accompaniment to a good meal.

The pool at Hacienda Uxmal is wonderfully refreshing for those who’ve spent a long day in the sun exploring the ruins.

Set amongst the hotel’s beautifully cared for gardens, it is large and inviting with lots of comfortable sun loungers and shady spots to retreat to.
