In a nutshell:
Romantic hotel that’s ideal for couples, slightly elevated from the beach and more intimate than many hotels in Huatulco. Some suites have private plunge pools and terraces with hammocks. Stylish beach club with inviting pools and restaurant.  Good choice for January honeymoons as Huatulco is beautifully warm, even in the winter.

The Quinta Real capitalizes on its lofty position with a well-planned and exceptionally attractive design. Moorish domes dominate the skyline and give a grand elegance to the restaurant and bar, whose terraces offer fantastic views over the bay for the most memorable evenings.

With just 27 sumptuous suites, the Quinta Real is easily the most intimate choice in Huatulco. All are beautifully furnished and very well equipped, but the luxurious Grand Class and Private Pool suites will satisfy any honeymooners’ dreams.

They also get our vote for the most outlandishly romantic bathrooms, with large oval Jacuzzi tubs directly overlooking the ocean. Grand Class suites have large balconies complete with hammocks and outdoor dining furniture plus more fantastic views, whilst the Private Pool suites have an appealing duplex arrangement, with the lower floor occupied by a private terrace and a good sized plunge pool.

The fabulous Presidential Suite, with large swimming pool and unique triple level open living space, might be extravagant for a vacation but is certainly worth considering for a small wedding party or a group of 4 to 8 people. The suite has two bedrooms, but a further two connecting suites are available.

During the daytime an efficient shuttle service delivers guests to the beach club, a steep drive down the hillside directly below the suites and main facilities. Here, enticing infinity pools and a pretty palapa roofed restaurant provide all that most guests will need at the Quinta Real during the daytime in sultry Huatulco.

With average high temperatures hovering around 88°F most of the year, this is a great place to escape from the winter blues, and it is worth remembering that Huatulco is just a 45 minute direct flight away from Mexico City.

Rooms

The Quinta Real’s 27 suites overlook stunning Tangolunda Bay from an elevated position, giving glorious ocean vistas from nearly every window and balcony. The interiors have lavish décor in cream and beige, highlighted with pale gold. Each suite has a private balcony, comfortable sitting area and fabulous Jacuzzi bathroom – many with amazing ocean views from the tub itself.

The heavenly Grand Class suites are enormous, airy quarters located on the higher levels, with exceptional views. These split-level rooms incorporate a sofa plus indoor and outdoor dining areas. The large balconies feature hammocks (most rooms) and are accessed by full length sliding glass doors from the sitting area. The luxurious bathrooms, opening from the bedroom with double doors, have large oval Jacuzzi tubs (with great views!) separate wall showers and a large vanity area.

The fabulous Presidential Suite occupies a central position with views directly across the bay. It features an extraordinarily large outdoor area, incorporating a sun terrace, large swimming pool and dining or entertaining area, in addition to 2 full size suites.

Eight private pool suites are the next most sumptuous quarters, arranged over two levels. The upper floor is identical to a Grand Class suite, with king or twin beds available. From the balcony, a spiral staircase leads down to the pool area, with an adjacent and private, shady terrace.

The resort also includes six master suites, which are slightly smaller than the Grand Class suites and have partial ocean views. Twin and king bed options are available and these rooms are in connecting pairs.

Note that the resort will accept but discourages children, since the facilities are not suitable for young ages. This is particularly true of the private pool suites, with open terraces and steep spiral staircases.

The six Master Suites are located in a three level block that has partial ocean views, in connecting pairs.  They are available with either king size or two twin beds. They’re a little smaller than the Grand Class suites, but have the same attractive decor.

Each has a balcony and a small sitting area (rooms with king size bed have a sofa, those with twin beds have chairs). Other amenities include TV, servi-bar, slippers, robes and safety box.  Although smaller than those in Grand Class suites, the balconies of the six Master Suites are plenty big enough for two people to read or dine in the open air.

Elevated views of the resort towards the bay make this a pleasant place for breakfast, and the gentle breezes are welcome around siesta time.

The master suite bathrooms are a little smaller than the Grand Class suites but have the same elegant fittings. Here the shower is directly above the Jacuzzi tub.

A honeymooner’s delight, these light, airy and spacious rooms are some of our favorite in Mexico.  The split level design gives a roomy sitting area with vaulted, beamed ceiling and wide glass doors opening onto the balcony.  The bedroom area is huge, with double doors opening into the luxurious bathroom and mirrored closets that hide the safety deposit box and iron.  A split-level sitting area, often with a vaulted ceiling, features a comfortable sofa overlooking the terrace. Each room also has a table and chairs suitable for indoor dining.

These upper level suites enjoy the most amazing views over the bay and the golf course. Most have a palapa roof and secure hooks for a large hammock.  The majority of the rooms face towards the east and so enjoy glorious sunny mornings – just dial room service to enjoy a lazy breakfast on your terrace.

We love the luxurious bathrooms in the Grand Class and Private Pool suites. Each features a pretty vanity area, separate walk-in marble shower and a large oval Jacuzzi tub.  A picture window above the tub ensures that you can enjoy the ocean views along with a soothing Jacuzzi – and there’s plenty of room for two…

Private pool suites are arranged over two levels. The upper floor has the same layout as a Grand Class suite, with a spacious bedroom and split level sitting area.  Bathrooms are equally luxurious, with the same Jacuzzi tub and separate walk-in shower.

A large balcony is accessed from the upper level and includes outdoor dining furniture. From the balcony, a spiral staircase leads down to a second, shaded terrace and the refreshing private plunge pool.  Most terraces offer sun and shade and have good views of the sea and the hotel gardens.

These are the ultimate accommodations for honeymooners, who can enjoy a refreshing dip without leaving their lavish suites.

This palatial suite features a magnificent terraced living space that spans the three floors of the hotel. The impressive quarters would be ideal for entertaining and would make a dramatic setting for a small wedding party.

The suite includes two bedrooms with private bathrooms and balconies. A further two connecting Grand Class suites with king size beds are also available. On the lower terrace is a large private swimming pool.  Both of the bedrooms in the suite have a split level arrangement, with the king size beds facing directly to the ocean and a raised sitting area above.  Each room has a bathroom and large balcony similar to those in the Grand Class suites.

This triple height galleried room enjoys the ocean breezes and offers outstanding views over the bay. The upper level features a dining area that is ideal for entertaining a small group.  The lower level is partly shaded by the palapa roof, with a comfortable lounge area and wide sunny terrace that extends down to the swimming pool.

This stunning swimming pool is one of the largest private pools that we’ve seen, and it has incredible ocean views. It is just one reason why we rate this presidential suite as the most desirable accommodations in Huatulco.

restaurant

A thousand twinkling lights around the bay of Tangolunda are the backdrop for romantic dinners at the Quinta Real.  The main restaurant, situated at the highest point of the resort, has an indoor air-conditioned dining room with large windows overlooking the bay. Further tables are set on the terraces outside and around the dining room, boasting fine views and cool evening breezes.

A variety of dishes are offered, including international selections and some Oaxacan specialties, and a good wine list is available.  Dinner is served between 6:00pm and 11:00pm and is often accompanied by live music, including some excellent Mariachi bands. A romantic setting and a memorable occasion is guaranteed.

In the morning, enticing ocean views distract guests from their breakfasts. Continental, American or a la carte selections are offered, including a wonderful list of the most popular breakfast dishes in each Quinta Real location across the continent.   We loved the Guatamalan Omelette Chapin, including tomato, onion, avocado and coriander. These are accompanied by pastries, fresh fruit and juices plus some great coffee (tea and hot chocolate are also available).

Lunch and daytime snacks are served at the pretty restaurant located on the upper terraces of the beach club.  The palapa roof and colorful table decor add an appropriately tropical touch to afternoon refreshments.  The elevated position offers great views and some pleasant breezes, but if you can’t tear yourself away from the beach or the pool then a variety of “finger food” is available for service at your chair or hammock. Who could ask for more?

beach

A wide sandy beach stretches around Tangolunda Bay. The Quinta Real is at the southern end of the bay, adjacent to the lush greens of the Huatulco golf club.  The horseshoe shaped bay offers generally safe bathing conditions, but watch for the warning flags that indicate any possible danger.

A row of palapa shades provides refuge from the sun and staff will gladly set sun loungers for you here. If you just want to snooze in the shade, you can sling a hammock here too.  The sandy bottom of the ocean shelves quite steeply, not ideal for young children but great for a refreshing swim.

pool

Three levels of pools are terraced down the hillside overlooking the wide beach. They merge with the azure waters of the Pacific, creating an idyllic setting for this exclusive beach club.  Two of the pools have a depth of around 4½ feet, while the third is a shallower wading pool on a separate terrace.  Choose your favorite sun lounger and the staff will bring towels and offer cold drinks.

An activities desk by the pool offers a variety of water sports, including kayaking and windsurfing. Call here to arrange boat trips around the beautiful bays of Huatulco too – highly recommended.

The beach itself is just a few steps down from the pool terraces. A frequent shuttle service transports guests up and down the steep access road between the main hotel facilities and the beach club.
