In a nutshell:
One to three bedroom apartment style suites with kitchen facilities, ideal for families. Quiet location with lots of sightseeing nearby.

Las Villas Akumal offers spacious two and three bedroom suites that are perfect for families or groups of friends, while the junior suites are ideal for couples or families with a young child.

All the suites are immaculately furnished and decorated, and most have direct ocean views from their large shady terraces. They also have fully equipped kitchens which include fridge-freezer, microwave and oven and hob (grocery stores can be found nearby at Akumal which is just half a mile away).

The villas are located on a beautiful stretch of pristine white sand, and the coral in the the shallows here makes for very good snorkeling right off the beach. There are also sandy accesses into the sea for those who just want to swim. This beautiful beach isn’t just a favorite for visitors; it’s also a popular nesting ground for Green and Loggerhead turtles from April through November.

The hotel has a great location and is just a short drive from Tulum, Puerto Aventuras and Playa del Carmen (we recommend having a rental car to make the most of the sightseeing opportunities nearby). There are some wonderfully remote and unspoilt beaches to discover along this stretch of coastline.

The propertyĀ has a lovely beachfront swimming pool with a section justĀ for children. Snorkeling equipment and kayaks are available; you might even be lucky enough to snorkel with the turtles!

There’s also a good restaurant which opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus service around the pool during the day. At nearby Akumal and Bahia Principe there are also a selection of restaurants.

Rooms

The suites at Las Villas Akumal are arranged in pretty white buildings, arranged overĀ threeĀ floors. Ā Their large terraces are shaded by palapas and hand-hewn local wood is featured on the stair and balcony rails. The suitesĀ face either the beach, ocean and swimming pool, or the jungle and gardens.

Of the twenty-six suites, eighteen have terraces with direct ocean views. Ā All the suites have fully equipped kitchens, air conditioning, satellite TV, ceiling fan, telephone and wireless Internet access.

Daily maid service is provided. Other services are available at an extra charge such as grocery shopping, a chef service, baby sitting and laundry service.

Summary of room facilities

JuniorĀ Suite

Garden views. Studio or One Bedroom style, one king bed and one sofa bed.

Two BedroomĀ Suite

Garden or Ocean views. Ā One bedroom with king bed, second bedroom with two beds.

Three Bedroom Suite

Ocean views. Ā One bedroom with king bed, second bedroom with 2 beds, third bedroom with king bed.

All of the Junior Suites have garden views and come in two different types of layout:

The first has an open-plan living/kitchen area and a separate bedroom with king size bed. The other is more studio style and slightly more open-plan with a bedroom area only partially partitioned from the living and kitchen area.

Both have sofas thatĀ can be made up as single beds.

These rooms can accommodate a maximum of three adults or two adults and one child. Like the larger suites they have fully equipped kitchens, dining table and chairs and a sitting area for relaxing.

The rooms are spacious with contemporary decor and tasteful furnishings.

The TwoĀ Bedroom Suites offer lots of space for a family. These rooms have one bedroom with king bed and a further bedroom with two double beds; both rooms have their own bathroom with large walk in shower.

Large sofas in the living room can also be used as single beds; in total these suites can accommodate up to six people.

There is an open plan living room/dining kitchen with glass doors leading to a spacious terrace that faces the gardens or ocean. These terraces have plenty of space to relax, and also have a table and chairs. This is a great spot to enjoy dinner in the evenings when the air is cooled by ocean breezes (the upper floor rooms in particular have spectacular views down the coast).

The suites contain all the essentials for a carefree stay. Toiletries, bath towels and beach towels are provided while the kitchens have a 20-litre bottle of purified water, fridge/freezer, oven and hob, microwave and coffe-maker. The cupboards are well-stocked with cutlery, crockery and glasses.

The ThreeĀ Bedroom Suites consist of one bedroom with a king bed, a second bedroom with two double beds and a self contained studio with king bed (the studio can be locked off to create a TwoĀ Bedroom Suite and a Studio).

They are a good choice for groups with one couple wanting a little more independence to perhaps prepare some of their own meals, for example a family traveling with grandparents.

All the bedrooms have their own private bathroom.

The ThreeĀ Bedroom Suites are all ocean-front and have fabulous views from their large terraces.

Like the TwoĀ Bedroom Suites they feature an open-plan kitchen-dining-sitting area which is bright and spacious. There’s plenty of comfortable seating and a large dining table.

The kitchen is very well equipped and has everything you could need to prepare anything from a snack to a gourmet 3-course dinner.

The large furnished terrace, complete with fabulous views of the beach and ocean, has plenty of comfortable lounging furniture as well and a table and chairs which makes it a good spot for lunch or dinner.

The ThreeĀ Bedroom Suites can accommodate up to eight people comfortably.

restaurant

The restaurant is located on the top floor of the hotel under a large palapa. It’s a casual place to enjoy breakfast and dinner.

In the mornings there’s a buffet breakfast that includes a selection of tropical fruits, yogurt, cereals, juices, coffee and pastries. For those who prefer something a little more substantial there is an a la carte option with cooked dishes including omelettes and egg rancheros.

In the afternoon a selection of snacks are available which are great to enjoy around the pool such as sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs and fajitas.

In the evenings the restaurant opens from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and serves a good range of dishes from pastas, to fresh fish, salads and steaks.

The restaurant is informal and has a very relaxed ambiance. There are other restaurants at nearby Akumal Beach, and always the option to prepare dinner in your suite, but it’s very enjoyable to just wander up here and have dinner prepared from such a fine choice of dishes.

beach

Jade Beach is just south of Akumal Bay. It’s a quiet and fairly remote beach as there are few hotels in this area; it feels very tranquil and very natural.

There is coral in the shallower water which makes this a great spot for snokeling, and there’s plenty to see just off the beach (you might even be lucky enough to swim with the turtles as it’s a popular nesting ground for Loggerhead and Green turtles).

These amazing creatures can be seen almost nightly from April thru November and, unlike the more touristy areas, the nests are left in situ, marked out with sticks and string.

There is a sandy access into the water about a hundred yards south of the hotel, while the beach itself makes for a wonderful, leisurely walk.

The hotel has snorkeling equipment and kayaks available for guests to use, plus beach beds and parasols on the edge of the beach for those who just want to relax.

pool

The beachfront swimming pool is the perfect place to cool off in the day. It’s surrounded by pretty gardens and is only steps away from the beach. The pool isn’t huge but it is certainly big enough for laps. At one end there is a shallower splash pool which is great for younger kids to enjoy the water.

There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols around this area and it’s a great place to relax with the sound of the waves and gentle ocean breezes to lull you.

There is a drinks service available by the pool but many of the suites are so close, it’s just a few minutes’ return journey to the fridge for another cold beer or soda.
