Valladolid

This attractive colonial city is an excellent base for exploring the region

Valladolid is an attractive colonial city with many attractions for a short or long stay.  The city is pleasant to explore on foot and there are some picturesque streets as well as busy markets and plazas, and even a cenote.

We recommend walking from the main square to the beautiful Convent of San Bernadino de Siena.  There you will find an excellent restaurant serving fine Yucatecan cuisine (the Taberna de los Frailes).

Valladolid is also an excellent base for exploring the region.  Nearby are some of the treasures of the Yucatan, including Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, the Cenotes Dzitnup and Ik Kil and the Balankanche caves.  Coba is less than an hour away, and the drive to Tulum is now fast and easy.
